(Free!) Film Festival in Victoria, May 13th.

gopgrid3

Hi, All,

The Global Oneness Project is hosting a free film ‘event’ which recognized the role of local communities in global change.

The event should prove to be a great one, and we encourage you to check it out.

See the event page, here.

“The Global Oneness Project is documenting a growing understanding of what it means to be part of one interconnected, interdependent world. Since 2006, the Project has traveled to six continents, gathering stories from individuals and organizations working in the fields of sustainability, conflict resolution, social justice, spirituality, indigenous wisdom, and politics.”

Hope to see you there.

University of Victoria ESL Class Supports Opportunitas Aequa!

On March 4th and 5th, one of Gerry Luton’s (a UVic ESL instructor) ESL classes came together to help raise funds (app. $1300!) and awareness for OA. They did this through giving presentations to the other 25 ESL classes, selling OA t-shirts, and by hosting a bake sale.

Min, one of the student organizers, said this: “It was a challenging and stressful assignment for us…but we were so happy because we could help children [who need it].”

They picked OA out a few Canadian organizations to support after they received a 30-minute presentation from OA on what our projects are about.

This is an awesome story and contribution from the OA community.

Thanks for sharing it Min, Gerry and the rest of the ESL class — and for supporting OA!

Here are some pics of the fundraising team in action:

OA Video in Vancouver Film Festival!

An OA video short is going to be shown at the upcoming Projecting Change Film Festival in Vancouver. The Film Festival, which is dedicated to increasing awareness and inspiring change, is being held at the Fifth Avenue Cinemas on Burrard St., in Vancouve, from April 2nd to 5th.

OA will be involved in the youth part of the festival, on Friday at 4pm, and will also be involved in the final screening of Friday night, where an OA short will precede a feature length documentary (call ‘Behind the Wheel’) at 9pm on Friday, April 3rd.

This is going to be OA’s first entry in a film festival! We are very excited, and we really encourage everyone to check out the other films on show. One our favorite is the story of 3 people who ran across the Sahara Desert to bring awareness to massive water issues facing our world (“Running the Sahara”, narrated by Matt Damon).

Until next time…

Hi, All!

In case you missed it: OA’s latest Charity Soccer Game was a huge success.

On January 17th, over 70 participants played in four simultaneous games in front of OA volunteers and supporters at UVic.

OA would like to express our gratitude to the following people and organizations:

- All participants and supporters for their donations and enthusiastic participation.

- The University of Victoria for donating the fields for the event.

- The Victoria Highlanders for generously sponsoring the event.

- ScotiaBank for its donation to OA.

- Peninsula Runners, Thrifty Foods, LUSH Cosmetics, Fireside Grill, and Heron Rock Bistro for contributing to our prize packs for our top 3 donating participants.

- And last — but certainly not least — the awesome volunteers that made the event a success.

Below are some pics from the event.

Thanks, again, and hope to see you out, next time!
