More from the Uganda Information Station.
This time, stories from women and girls about their experiences during the conflict:
1-for-1 t-shirts for Uganda
Hello, All,
As most of you know, OA is running a pilot project in Gulu, Uganda in May. Before the OA team takes off, we will count the number of 1 for 1 t-shirts sold.

The proceeds from every 1 for 1 shirt sold will be used to buy a soccer ball. That ball will be donated to an organization supporting at-risk and war-affected children in Gulu.
The ball count is on the 15th of April!
If you make a purchase on the OA Shop or in HtO on Broad St., in Victoria, before that date, your purchase will whisk a ball to Gulu and into the hands of a child.
Following the project, we will provide lots of media, so that you (and perhaps the lucky recipient of your gift!) can see the impact your purchase has made!
If you would like to know more, you can email us at theoashop@gmail.com.
Thanks very much!
Andrew Brownlee and the OA Shop Team.
Uganda Information Station #2
Hi, All,
The latest episode of Law & Order: SVU took on some of the issues faced by children in Uganda.
Here is an excellent article about the TV episode and its real-world counterpart.
By for now,

Uganda Information Station, Post #1
Hi, All,
With Project Uganda less than a month away, we wanted to start sharing news and interesting articles to give you a glimpse of life in Northern Uganda. So, here’s the first addition to the collection which we have affectionately named “The Uganda Information Station”.

Good news and $5
Hi Everyone!

We have received an awesome pledge of support from LUSH that will guarantee the success of our pilot project, this April/May, in Northern Uganda!
We are still fundraising, though, and one of the ways is with a ‘Five by Five’ campaign. Five by Five works like this:
You donate $5, and then you ask five friends to donate $5 and ask five of their friends to donate $5…
All donations are tax-deductible in Canada. Join us and our partners and support the development of soccer-based peacebuilding and gender equality activities in Northern Uganda. To donate, go to www.projectrwanda.givemeaning.com

Thanks,
The OA Team
An Introduction: Youth Coalition for Peace

It’s about time we introduced you to our partner organization for the upcoming pilot in Uganda. OA will be working with the Youth Coalition for Peace (YCFP), which is a group of youth aged 20 to 30 in Northern Uganda who use recreation-based activities like soccer to help rebuild their communities, after over 20 years of conflict. There are over 100 members of the YCFP spread across six war-affected communities in Northern Uganda.

Even though the failed peace talks have left their region in a grey area between war and official peace, the YCFP has been working for peace at all levels from preventing domestic violence to promoting national reconciliation. Using sports, art, music, drama, and dance as well as a weekly radio show, the YCFP reaches children and youth across three districts of Northern Uganda.

If you want to learn more about the YCFP, check out their newsletter here.
We’re really excited about this partnership and will be keeping you updated as the pilot approaches.
Cheers for now,
The OA Team
OA and Gulu, Uganda.
As you may have guessed from our earlier posts, OA is getting ready for a pilot project this spring in Gulu, Uganda.

From April 16 to May 26, we will be working with a local organization, the Youth Coalition for Peace, to train coaches, rehabilitate a field, and run soccer camps for children.
Why Gulu? We selected Gulu and Northern Uganda for our next project, because Northern Uganda is emerging from over 20 years of conflict that has seen over 1 million people displaced from their homes, thousands of children abducted by the rebel army, and a civilian population who have suffered unbelievable atrocities.
The peace talks have recently failed but a calm unlike any in my lifetime persists across the region and communities are slowly rebuilding making it an ideal time for OA’s involvement. Working with our local partner, we are going to be giving children who have never known peace a chance to play, to rebuild their communities, and to be children.
